Pink Saturday

This is a tea-for-one teapot and cup. It is very special to me because it was a gift from my youngest DD not long after she moved out on her own.

Letting Go

I am a Flybaby. If you have never heard of Marla Cilley you can check her out here.
One of the things she does is help us organize and de-clutter our homes. For the month of February I am following the daily de-clutter missions which are broken down into managable tasks. Today I have decided to let go of my 32 year wedding cake top. Not the ornament, but the actual cake itself. It has been in the same freezer for all these years and we are looking for a new freezer. I do not want to put an old cake into a brand new shiny freezer.

I am sure no one would want to eat it. Would you?

Stairway Complete

My DH and I just completed our updated stairway. It really was a joint effort. Neither one of us remembers who it was that suggested a piece of iron work in the large blank space, but we are happy with it. I (of course) picked it out, DH sprayed it white and balanced himself on a stool on the steps (like an acrobat) and secured it to the wall. I couldn't have done it without him. He also finished the trim which hides some poorly done gyproc.
Here it is upclose.

Makeover Monday

Here is a project that I just finished. I am very pleased with how it has turned out. Now I have lots of storage for my lovely silver pieces. I glued on the applique myself and am now looking for some glass knobs to replace the old ones.

Pink Saturday

Have you ever seen pink cotton swabs?
I thought these were the coolest. They don't really match my bathroom though, there is no pink in there. What's up with that?!

This 'n That

Just thought I would post some of the latest 'treasures' from our local thrift shop.
Lots of pretty detail on this white tin vase. It may need another coast of paint.

A complete ribbon embroidery kit. (see, not everything I own is white)

Beautiful vintage buttons.

A silk bag, Jessica McClintock label inside.
We have the best thrift store.

A Little Sunshine

We had a break in the rain this morning so I decided to take the bus to Langley. There are a few cute stores there and a couple of places to treasure hunt (thrift stores). The Passionate Home is one of my favorites. The owner is so sweet, she always has a big smile. I took this photo last spring.

New Project

I am hoping to be able to take these. . .
...and turn them into some of these.

(I am very sorry I can't find which blog I got the photo from. I sincerely hope I will not hurt anyone's feelings.)

I thought they were so beautiful and would make nice gifts. I like to take little projects with me when I go to babysit the grandchildren.

Pink Saturday!

I really love pink, it was my favorite colour even when I was a little girl. I got this hat for my 50th birthday.
Here is where it sits in my bedroom.

This is my first time posting on Beverly's Pink Saturday. Check out some of the other participants.

I Have a New Couch

Well, not exactly. I got this great slipcover from Avon. It is really well made. Our old couch is a dark navy blue with hunter green and burgundy plaid. Really the old woodsy cottage look from the 80's. A very nice change. don't you think?

Organizing 101

After reading Cindy's post http://romantichome.blogspot.com/2009/01/there-are-some-really-generous-people.html I thought I would show you how I store my vintage linens. This lovely dresser was a garage sale find for $5.00 which my DH painted white for me. We have it in our main bathroom closet. It was missing the top two knobs and I replaced them with glass ones. I am not too happy with that look and have ordered some replacements that closer match the original hardware.
Now that I see in the photo how bare the top looks, I am going 'shopping' in my house to find something pretty to put up there. It is funny how things look to us in photos.
Note: I had to stand in the bathtub to take the picture. lol

Is it Spring Yet!

This cute little fellow followed me home this week. I think he needs a new home. He was in a nice bird cage, but I am going to wait until I find a white one. Another treasure hunt! I noticed there were birds in several of my recent posts. Do you think I have a theme going on here? Looking forward to spring.

A New Contest!

Take a look around Cathy's newest creations at Elegance & Whimsy. You won't be disappointed. She is having a New Year's contest, how much fun is that! I have one of her hand-painted candy jars, so pretty. There is a new line of faux pastries that would look great in anyone's dining room or kitchen. Have fun!
